Basketry Masterclass with Lissa
Come and reconnect with nature in this one day masterclass with internationally renowned Lissa de Sailles!
Time & Location
Is it time you left the day to day to reconnect with nature, took time out to be present and learn new creative skills with a group of like-minded people?
We are pleased to bring you the wonderfully talented Lissa de Sailles from the Australian Basketry School, an internationally renowned modern and traditional basketry and fibre artist who splits her time between Nowra and Wollongong when she isn’t overseas exhibiting her work!
You will start with a short bush walk to help you ease yourself into the day, get to know Lissa and the rest of the group. Lissa will introduce you to the topic of the day, answer any questions you might have about what’s ahead and help you notice the beautiful rich and varied native and exotic plants that are suitable for weaving. We may even find materials to use for our projects or for a dye pot!
We will then come back indoors where Lissa will demonstrate and teach you techniques such as looping, twining, and coiling. She will then assist you in how to combine those skills into practice to produce your own masterpieces independently. You might choose to make a basket or a two-dimensional piece on the day to display in your home as a lasting memento of this unique experience. You might discover an innate skill and get to do both! Let’s play and see where inspiration takes you on the day!
We will then break for a lovely relaxed lunch and then continue with our artwork. As an extra bonus Lissa will incorporate some botanical dyeing tips and techniques in your project too! How fun!
A note from Lissa: ‘’I wish to empower women with knowledge and wisdom learned over a lifetime of following my creative passion in both fibre arts and dance. I am a high functioning auto didact who has struggled with my own boredom and frustration with conventional methods of teaching, therefore I have worked out a way to impart as much knowledge to my students as I possibly can. I am thrilled to be collaborating with Le Workshop to deliver an unforgettable and perhaps, life changing experience.’’
The short bush track is a little uneven so be sure to wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
A certain amount of dexterity is also necessary to make the most of the skills that Lissa will teach you on the day.
